Does life feel heavy and dark?

Perhaps life is at a breaking point and depression feels too heavy to keep carrying around. You may be pretending you’re fine or forcing yourself to smile, but it takes a lot of energy to hide depression. Energy you don’t have. It’s not uncommon to wish you’d just not wake up or begin to have thoughts of suicide.

Whatever you’re going through, depression can bring life to a halt:

  • You struggle to get motivated or focus when you need to

  • You withdraw so no one sees you’re depressed or so you can conserve energy

  • You take on an “I don’t care” mindset

  • You have a short fuse and everyone knows it

Therapy for depression can help.

It may feel impossible now, but you can enjoy life again (or for the first time). You can have a more optimistic mindset. You can feel at peace. And I can help you get there.

Therapy for depression helps you do 3 things:

  • Learn about depression, such as why shame tends to hold people hostage

  • Learn how to address self-defeating thoughts, increase optimism, and get motivated

  • Discover (or recover!) where you want to go from here so you can live a life according to what you value most

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to therapy for depression comes from a place of compassion and prosperity: My hope for you is that you don’t just survive — you thrive.

You don’t have to live a life feeling withdrawn and alone.

i can help you get there.

FAQS

Common questions about therapy for depression

  • Sessions are usually structured with a clear agenda that we both create. Early on, I will provide you with foundational knowledge about depression, because knowledge is key to treatment. You will also have a clear understanding of why you are using a particular skill or intervention. I want you to walk away an expert about the depression you’re feeling and how to treat it! We will address feelings, thoughts, and behaviors – whether they’re from decades-old beliefs or more recent events. We may do exercises in session, and you’ll definitely want to try out the new skills between sessions so we can come back and talk about your experience.

  • Everyone’s situation is unique, so we will discuss recommendations and create a treatment plan together. Progress greatly depends on how regularly you attend sessions and implement the changes you work on.

  • While therapists can never guarantee results, chances are that if you show up and do the work, you’ll find relief. Depression can be genetic, environmental, or a combination of both. Research shows that the most effective treatment for depression is a combination of medication and therapy. I will always respect your choice of whether or not to take medication. However, I believe it’s important to be informed of what the research says. Sometimes therapy doesn’t always resolve depression just the same as it wouldn’t resolve diabetes. We take insulin for that. The brain is an organ too and may need medication to help regulate itself. I am able to provide you with a referral for a medication evaluation once we begin therapy.
